't find out i hosted the charlie sheen roast." hugh jackman hosted in 2009, alec baldwin and steve martin in 2010. they tried to go young in 2011 with james franco and anne hathaway. and earlier this year, back to classics, billy crystal hosting for the ninth time. speaking of oscar hosts, two-time host, jon stewart, sat down last night on "the daily show" with former california governor arnold schwarzenegger. arnold making the rounds promoting "total recall," contains less than flattering details about his personal life including revelations about that affair with his former housekeeper. jon stewart tried to get into that subject by referring to arnold's acting career. >> so listen. so you obviously, you know, we've got to get the elephant out of the room. obviously what everybody's thinking about when they look at this is, what were you thinking with "jingle all the way"? i mean, seriously. just dreadful. just dreadful. did anybody ever say to you, like your family, don't do this, dude. don't, don't. >> i think that my kids have a hard time with that. >> sure. >> you know, look. this wa
. it was about scripted lines. while other senior democrats like charlie rangel said they are not buying that take a listen. >> something i think clint eastwood would be proud of. on substance his positions were just as empty as the chair that mr. eastwood had on stage. >> i don't think the president took him very seriously and he should have. and for a large part, he -- the president just looked bored and wanted to get the darn thing over with. >> the president can take comfort tonight though in the fact that ronald reagan lost his first debate 1984 came roaring back, won that election. same for george w. bush in 2004. will i am was warming up the crowd, the dj today in denver. at one point on his play list journaly's don't stop believing, trace. will i am' of the back eyed pleas. next up, the running mates, vice president joe biden and congressman paul ryan are set to face off in their owner debate one week from tonight. the v.p. says his practice sessions with congressman chris van holland are going well and is he looking forward to the real thing the thing about congressman ryan is h
prepared. they have everything they want to say -- >> i am having nightmare flashbacks. charlie, what do you think that the candidates need to be to be considered quote/unquote the winner? or will they both claim victory regardless? >> i don't think we will have a major moment in any of these debates, unless somebody does something completely -- incredibly stupid, which mitt romney -- could possibly do that. i don't see president obama doing that. he is a lot more disciplined. he is more comfortable on the stage. , i think than mitt romney. for mitt romney's part, he needs to go out there and not try to be liked. he is not a particularly... likeable candidate. i think he needs to say, i will be a competent technocrat on the economy and focus on that and not try to be a rock star because president obama has that sort of sewn up, i think. in an election like this, where have you high unemployment and people are very, very dissatisfied, i think you have a chance -- that really could be an opening for a challenger. i don't think that you -- normally, voters go with the candidate they would l
i think that is telling. i was with charlie cook last night. one of the prognosticators around here. charlie famously set some time back that if president obama is reelected it will be despite the economy. if governor romney gets elected it will be despite his campaign. and i think that is playing out right now, and that the part of it is this 50 percent attitude. i think the other thing, governor romney, i think he grew up in a privileged environment. just like i want to give my daughter all that i can. his father wanted to do the same. became, you know, was somewhat isolated with the schools. i think sort of thinking along the way. and i think he also, his parents instill upon them that because of those privileges he had a responsibility. and that is, what you might say, class and the responsibility to give back and to, you know, to be a leader. and so i think he wants to be president because he wants to make good decisions. he once said, with the circumstances as the ambassador said, he wants to reorganize the government so that it's efficient. but unlike bill clinton who could t
that charlie sheen is riveting. >> it was unbelievable. why not? let's throw it out there. >> stay in your own zone. don't channel jennifer granholm here? >> you don't think that'd be attractive. >> what does extreme mika look like. >> i could do the tease as granholm. what do you think? >> do some extreme mika. >> some extreme mika. i'd need some vodka. you don't want that, trust me. it's usually based on anger and you usually have done something wrong. willie, what's that like? >> there's some screaming, there's some intensity in the eyes. >> yeah. >> there's some veins through here. >> yeah? >> yeah. >> so it is kind of granholm-ish. >> in a negative way. >> it's never a good day when mommy's not happy. up next, eugene robinson and chuck todd. we'll be right back. "ever ask somebody to lend you a foot?" "who thinks about stuff like that?" "vince mahe grew up on two continents... and noticed that wherever you go, people have their hands full, but their feet free." "the result? a liftgate you operate with your foot." "code name?"
